24 people have been charged with a total of 45 separate incidents of rape and sexual assault cases in July.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there  were 35 rape cases, 3 attempted rape cases and 7 sexual assault cases.

There were two people charged with serious sexual offences that were under the age of 18 years.

13 victims of serious sexual offences were under the age of 18 years.

There were five sexual offences that occurred where the victims were related to the accused person.

The DPP’s Office says there was one serious sexual offence where the accused person was the biological father and the victim was 8-years-old. Another serious sexual offence involved a 56-year-old biological grandfather and the victim was 10-years-old.

There was one serious sexual offence where the accused person was an 83-year-old landlord and the victim was 11-years-old.

Five cases were discontinued in court.

Of the five, one was discontinued due to a false complaint from the complainant.

Meanwhile 22 people were charged with a total of 47 separate cases of rape and sexual assault in June.
