We are expected to save $44 million dollars a year with current fuel prices once the Nadarivatu dam project is completed.

These are the words of Fiji Electricity Authority Chief Executive Association, Hasmukh Patel on the Nadarivatu Renewable Hydro Power Dam currently being worked on.

Patel said when the project is completed the power generated from it will replace expensive and imported diesel fuel adding that the project is progressing to plan.

He said the project construction period will create alot of new jobs for the people of Fiji adding that the whole project is expected to finish in 2011.

Patel says furthermore being a renewable power project, it will also help to reduce carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions and hence assist Fiji to meet its Kyoto protocol obligations.
