The 2011 Digicel Cup competition was launched today at the Holiday Inn with the sponsors giving $400,000.
Under the sponsorship, each rugby union taking part in the Digicel Cup will receive $26,000.
Digicel Fiji CEO David Butler said with the Rugby World Cup in September, the Digicel Cup competition is significant for local players to try and impress the national selectors for a place in the team.
Butler said they look forward to the opening game on Friday evening where Naitasiri meets Nadroga.
This year’s Digicel Cup winner will walk away with $27,000.
Naitasiri hosts Nadroga at 6pm Friday at Ratu Cakobau Park.
