4 new members Judicial Service Commission
Section 16(1) states the Judicial Commission will consist of the Chief Justice, who is to be its chairperson, the President of the Court of Appeal, a legal practitioner with not less than 15 years post-admission practice, to be appointed by the President on the advice of the Attorney-General and the fourth member will be a person, not being a legal practitioner, appointed by the President on the advice of the Attorney General.
The previous Commission consisted of the Chief Justice, the other two members of the Commission are the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission and the President of the Fiji Law Society.
Section 16(3) outlines the function of the Judicial Commission which states the Commission may investigate complaints about judges and judicial officers of courts subordinate to the High Court and may take disciplinary action against them.
The appointments will be made by President Ratu Josefa Iloilo.
