Police have laid charges against four men who were allegedly caught red handed while trying to steal cash and items from a major supermarket in Lautoka on Saturday night.

Assistant police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the four have been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and resisting arrest.

The will be appearing in court tomorrow.

Quick action by police officers prevented a major break-in at the Shop N Save the supermarket in Tukani street, Lautoka, which was a result of a tip off.

Meanwhile, police have taken two people in for questioning after a substantial amount of dried leaves believed to be marijuana was found in their possession.

Assistant spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said police upon receiving a tip off, stopped a carrier which was on its way to Sigatoka town from Navosa over the weekend.

A search was conducted and plastic bags of dried leaves were confiscated from them.

According to Sokomuri, the two allegedly hired the carrier to transport the dried leaves.

Police are awaiting the analysis report from the Koronivia Research Station.
