The number of reported serious sexual assault cases continues to rise with four alleged gang rapes, the alleged rape of a 6-year-old boy by his grandfather and the alleged rape of a 12-year-girl by a 12-year-old boy.

54 incidents of serious sexual offences were reported in February while there were 34 separate incidents in January this year.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says 30 people were charged with a total of 54 separate incidents in February.

The youngest victim is the 6-year-old boy and the accused is his 65-year-old grandfather.

There was one incident of rape where the accused is a 72-year-old uncle and the victim is his 12-year-old niece.

The youngest accused person is a 12-year-old boy and the victim is also 12-years-old.

There were four separate incidents of alleged gang rapes and the victims were 12 years, 19 years, 20 years and 22 years old.

Of these four alleged gang rapes, one of the victims was a tourist.

There were 9 incidents where the victims were related to the accused persons.

There were 45 rape cases, 6 assault with intent to rape cases and 3 sexual assault cases.

The DPP’s Office says there were 24 victims of the 54 separate incidents of which 14 victims were under the age of 18-years-old.
