The Health Ministry has purchased $3.8 million worth of Medical, Surgical, Dental, X-ray and Laboratory equipment from Korea.
Ministry spokesperson Iliesa Tora said the decision to buy new equipment was made after a survey was done last year of all the equipment at all the hospitals and Health centres around the country.
He said there was a great need to have new equipment as many are very old.
Meanwhile, the Liaising officer between the Health Ministry and the Korean Company Yuil Trading Corporation, Justin Choi said they were contacted through by Korean Embassy in Suva about the equipment which is a big project for his company.
The Medical equipment bought include baby incubators, cardiac ventilators, Cardiac Beds, Physio equipment, Drug Trolleys, machines to control cholesterol, automatic Height and weight tester and many other machines.
Some of the equipment was not replaced for more than 15 years while the hospitals never had some of the equipment now bought from Korea.
The Korean team will be in the country for the next three weeks training the technicians and doctors on the usage of these machines in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa.
