Expect more fireworks at this week’s Vatukoula Sevens after organisers decided to increase the number of participating teams from 24 to 32.
This comes after more teams are showing interest in the richest tournament ever organized locally in sporting history with total prize money of $85,000.
Competition director Lemeki Rasiga said they have more than 60 teams but they will only accommodate 32.
Rasiga added most of the top teams from last weekend’s Marist Sevens have confirmed their participation including defending champions Red Rock, Police, Samurai Barracudas, Army Green, Wardens, Waimanu, Ratu Filise, Hydro, Navy and Uprising.
Some prominent players who will play in this tournament are Dale Tonawai, Aisake Katonibau, Josaia Lotawa, Waqabaca Kotobalavu, last year’s player of the tournament Peni Gaunimeke, Sakenasa Aca, Nasoni Roko, Epeli Dranivasa, Aminiasi Nava and Lepani Nabuliwaqa.
The Vatukoula Sevens will kick off at Theodore Park this Friday.
