In a joint operation between the Tobacco Control Unit and the LTA, 32 students were booked for smoking in public vehicles in the Suva area.

An official from the Tobacco Unit said the operation was carried out during the Suva Zone 2 meet where they were out targeting buses which were carrying students to the meet, adding the most booked from one school alone was 11 students.

The official said some students were also caught smoking within the stadium complex and their case has been referred to their respective schools.

Students were fined $50 on the spot and were given 21 days to pay.
