The High Court has awarded a 30 year old truck driver of Labasa more then $171,000 in compensation after he sued the Valebasoga Tropic Boards Limited for providing him with a faulty truck which was later involved in an accident.
While awarding the compensation to Sanjay Singh, High Court Judge Justice Jiten Singh said that despite the victim's request to the Management that the brakes of his truck be changed he was instructed by his superiors to drive the truck.
The court heard that on 5th July 2005, Sanjay Singh drove the truck loaded with logs and while going down the hill the truck overturned. He was trapped under the truck and hence suffered severe injuries.
Justice Singh also said that due to the spinal injury received by the victim, he cannot walk is still having difficulty in moving around.
