Police have taken three people into custody in relation to the alleged murder of Sheik Mohammad Hassan in Naqere, Savusavu.

However Assistant Police Spokesperson, Atunaisa Sokomuri said it’s too early to confirm if the people taken in are the ones who allegedly assualted Hassan to death.

49 year old Hassan was guarding the sawmill premises when three masked men broke in and allegedly assaulted him after tying up his hands and legs.

The robbers then went inside the house of the sawmill owner who is a Korean national and also tied him up. They then fled with more than $14,000 cash.

Meanwhile, a 25 year old Carpenter from Naseakula Labasa appeared in the Labasa Magistrate Court this afternoon charged with the alleged murder of a Lomaloma villager over the weekend.

Varasiko Mainikoro who is charged with one count of murder has been remanded in custody.

Magistrate, Anare Tuilevuka has also transferred the case to the High Court due the seriousness of the crime and he will now appear in the High Court on the 5th of next month when a plea is expected to be taken.

It is alleged Mainikoro assualted the 24 year old villager to death outside a nightclub in Labasa town on Friday night.
