Three police officers were each charged with assault causing actual bodily harm last month however one of the police officers had his case withdrawn after new evidence came to light.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirms that three people were charged with money laundering in June where they allegedly laundered $500,000 from their employer’s payroll system.
The DPP’s Office also says that two people were also charged with trafficking a Bangladeshi male into Fiji on the pretext of arranging a job and work visa.
49 people were charged with a total of 38 counts of separate incidents in June.
There was one case of manslaughter, 8 cases of aggravated robbery, 1 case of attempted aggravated robbery, 8 cases of aggravated burglary, 1 case of attempted aggravated burglary, 7 cases of theft, 3 cases of money laundering, 2 cases of dangerous driving causing death, 4 cases of assault causing actual bodily harm, 2 cases of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 1 case of trafficking in persons.
There were 5 juveniles who were also charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft.
For the aggravated robbery offences, the items stolen ranged from $300 worth of mobile phones, to cash and property worth over $44,000. For the aggravated burglary and theft offences, the items stolen ranged from basic food items to $20,000 worth of property.
Two people were charged with dangerous driving causing death however these charges were withdrawn after a review of the evidence.
