Three police officers and a member of the RFMF charged with unlawfully and indecently assaulting a person appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court.
This is in relation to the video brutality case.
The police officers are Sanita Laqenasici, Jona Davonu and Semesa Naduka while Filimone Catimaibulu is from the RFMF.
The State counsel objected to bail and the four have been remanded in custody by Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
Magistrate Ratakele has also informed the four to seek legal representation.
The case has been adjourned to the 28th of this month.
It was confirmed earlier today that the Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde has decided to charge 3 police officers and 2 members of the military in relation to an alleged assault on Iowane Benedito which occurred in November 2012.
Pryde said the five are each to be charged with unlawfully and indecently assaulting Iowane Benedito on 28th November 2012.
The DPP said four men are currently in Police custody.
The fifth suspect, Pita Matairavula, whose whereabouts are unknown, will be produced in court once he has been located.
Pryde said Police are to be commended for completing a difficult investigation.
He said this case reinforces the continuing commitment of the State to bring to justice any person who thinks that their position places them above the due process of the law.
Pryde said as this matter is now before the courts there should be no further public discussion or speculation in the media other than what is reported in the courts.
