Two former workers of iTaukei Land Trust Board and a former policeman convicted of five counts of money laundering have each been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court.
Josefa Saqanavere, Tuimoala Raoga and Savenaca Batibawa were found guilty for laundering a total sum of $638,902.26 from the iTaukei Land Trust Board in 2012.
High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo says the aggravating factors were that there was a serious breach of trust and the money stolen was never recovered.
He said the three men showed no remorse throughout the trial.
Judge Temo said the sentence should deter future TLTB staff that handle TLTB trust money and i-Taukei landowners lease money from committing similar offences.
The three men have been given a non‑parole period of 12 years.
