High court Judge Justice Daniel Gounder has raised serious concerns that police are unable to locate three men, who are on bench warrants since 2003, to answer to murder charges.

Judge Gounder questioned the DPP lawyer on why police have not been able to bring them to justice highlighting that the three face serious allegations of brutally murdering a taxi driver in November 2002.

He said the family of the victim is awaiting justice and questioned whether police took photographs and fingerprints when the three were initially charged and brought to court.

DPP lawyer Saini Puamau could not answer these questions.

Judge Gounder also stated that more priority must be given in such serious cases where a life has been taken. He ordered that the families of these men be tracked down and they be brought to court.

Puamau also informed the court that some changes are being implemented within the office of the DPP which will now see the Station Officers from the various areas come to court and explain why bench warrants have not been executed and the difficulties they face.

The matter is adjourned to April 26th.
