3 cases of serious sexual offences were withdrawn by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions last month.
The DPP’s Office says there was a serious incident where a 62-year old grandfather was alleged to have raped his 4-year-old granddaughter however this matter was withdrawn due to inadequate police investigation and false accusation by the mother of the victim.
The accused in this matter was a diabetic and was in remand since August last year.
Further investigations have been ordered into this matter.
There was one serious incident of alleged gang rape. This matter was also withdrawn after the victim admitted to making a false claim.
Another case was withdrawn after authorities could not locate the 25-year-old alleged victim.
There were 13 people charged with a total of 19 separate incidents in June.
There were 12 cases of rape, 1 case of attempted rape and 6 cases of sexual assault.
8 victims were under the age of 18 years.
3 accused persons were under the age of 18 years.
Of these 3, one of the accused is alleged to have raped his 9 year old cousin.
There were 6 incidents where the accused and the victims were related to each other.
Of these 6, there was one serious incident where a 59-year-old grandfather is alleged to have raped his 2-year-old granddaughter.
There was one serious incident where both the accused and the victim were employees of a resort.
