A 3-year-old of Naikorokoro, Sigatoka is the latest drowning victim after her body was found two and a half meters away from where she was swimming with other children.

Police Spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the 3-year-old was swimming in the Sigatoka River with other children from Naikorokoro village at around 11.30am yesterday.

Sokomuri said the child's parents had gone diving for fresh water mussels or kai and upon their return found that the child was missing.

A search was conducted and the 3-year-olds body was found a few meters away.

A post mortem will be conducted today.

The drowning death toll is now 35.
