A 29-year-old record has been broken at the 2016 Lautoka Athletics Zone.
Tiko Batibasaga of Natabua High School broke the 29‑year‑old Junior Boys Shot Put record with a throw of 14.57 metres.
The previous record of 14.46 metres was set by G. Penueli of Natabua High School in 1987.
A new record was also set by Francis Kurivitu of Jasper William High School in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump.
She set a new record of 10.49 metres.
George Vokiti of Natabua High School also set a new record in the Intermediate Boys High Jump with a record of 1.92 metres.
He won gold in the Intermediate Boys High Jump at the Coke Games last year.
Akuila Simeli of St Thomas High School won the Senior Boys 100 metres final.
Alesi Finau of Jasper Williams High School was the stand out female athlete of day one as she won the Intermediate girls 100 metres with a record run of 12.03 seconds.

Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute is in second place with 1 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.
