A 29 year old tertiary student yesterday pleaded guilty to stealing a cheque from his employer and trying to cash it.

Magistrate Makareta Mua heard that Imran Khan on the 29th of April last year at around 4pm in the afternoon while working as an accounts clerk for Ashok Transport Limited, wrote a cheque of $765.75 and forged the signature of the company secretary then tried to cash the cheque.

In mitigation, Khan told Magistrate Mua that he had stolen the money so that he could pay for his university fees and that he was sorry for what he had done.

The Court also heard that the cheque was not cashed as the cashier had rung the company up and tried to verify the cheque and was alerted that the cheque had been forged.

Magistrate Mua has adjourned the case until next Tuesday, the 10th of August when she will deliver her sentence.
