29 terminated from Civil Service
This has been revealed by PSC Chairman, Josefa Serulagilagi who said that all cases involving disciplinary action against civil servants for breaches in the Code of Conduct and abuses area are dealt with fairly by the Tribunal and PSC.
The Tribunal was set up to look into reports of abuse of office and power by Civil servants and it began hearing cases in September last year.
According to Serulagilagi, once the matter is brought to their attention, the Tribunal deals with the issue and then the Commission under the State Service Decree, decides what type of disciplinary action to take.
Serulagilagi said to date, the Commission has dealt with 71 cases of disciplinary action, out of which 29 Officers were terminated, 22 others had varying levels of penalties imposed, while 13 people were reinstated after being found not guilty.
Under the Public Service Act 1999, penalties such as termination or the option of transfer or redeployment can be issued amongst other disciplinary actions.
