A 26 year old woman who is charged with the murder of her new born baby in 1999 and has been running away from police for 11 years has appeared before Magistrate Makereta Mua.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Leone Lautabui said the woman was 15 years old then and lived with an aunt in Lami.

On the 14th October 1999, her aunt asked her if she was pregnant, she denied it but replied that she was gaining a lot of weight.

On the 23rd of October, 1999 she complained of a headache and she was alone at their home when she felt that she was going to deliver her baby.

Lautabui told the court the baby was alive and the accused is alleged to have placed the baby in a shopping bag and thrown it in a nearby bush.

The matter was reported to Police by her aunt when she returned home on the same day.

She will appear in the High Court on the 6th of next month.
