A total of 2558 people are now taking shelter in evacuation centers in the Northern and Eastern division.

Acting Director DISMAC Pajiliai Dobui said 46 evacuation centers are now occupied.

DISMAC teams on the ground said people living in flood prone areas and those who are not feeling secure in their own homes have opted to move to the evacuation centers as a precautionary measure.

According to Dobui they have not received any reports of any flooding or damages as yet and they continue to gather information from around the country.

However, all communications to Cikobia Island, which is currently feeling the full brunt of Hurricane Tomas, has been cut off.

DISMAC also advised people that they must make all necessary arrangements for the evening as the curfew is expected to be imposed again for the rest of the country later today.
