250 athletes will represent Fiji at 2016 Melanesian Games this Thursday at the ANZ Stadium.

Team Fiji Manager Calvin Yee said Fiji will be represented in all the events at the competition and it will be important for athletes who are trying to qualify for the Rio Olympics in August.

The Melanesia Games is the final Olympic qualification tournament in the region and athletes from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania will also be competing at the event.

Pacific sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro and Fiji’s javelin champion, Leslie Copeland are the favourites from Fiji to qualify for the Olympics.

Copeland will need to reach the qualifying mark for Men’s Javelin which is over 83 metres Banuve will need to reach the qualifying time for the 100 metres which is 10.16 seconds while the 200 metres is 20.50 seconds.

The Melanesian Games will start this Thursday and will end on Saturday.
