Police have arrested and charged 25 villagers of Yaro for allegedly storming into a Backpackers Resort and damaging property over the weekend.
Divisional Crime Officer Western, ASP Waisea Kadawa has confirmed that the villagers entered the premises claiming that the resort owner has not paid lease rent for the last couple of years.
The villagers allegedly damaged property and drank liquor which was kept at the bar in the resort.
ASP Kadawa said that the villagers were brought to police by their High Chief, the Tui Lawa at his own expense.
Police have thanked the chief for his support.
The villagers will appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court later today.
