$23M upgrade to improve water supply
Authority General Manager Operations, Taito Delana said that this will alleviate water supply to problematic areas.
He said the third major water supply shutdown will be held this Saturday from 7am for the Suva Nausori corridor and it is being carried out to allow for upgrading works at the Waila treatment plant that involves the switchboard replacement.
Delana said the new switchboard would control the flow of water from the source into the treatment plant.
Delana said that the system is undergoing maintenance after about 15 years and it is only carried out now with the availability of funds.
He said that the production capacity has in fact reduced for Waila from about 90 to about 80 to 70 mega liters per day.
He said the Authority is upgrading it to see that it goes back to its initial capacity of producing 100 mega liters per day.
He said the same can be said about Tamavua treatment plant which is just producing more than 55 mega liters but by the end of this upgrading works full capacity will be achieved.
