22 Gold Medals at Stake
The Judo competition will have 8 gold in the men's and women's division and our best hope in the women's division is Japan based Sisilia Nasiga who is aiming for three gold medals.
Glen Kable is another medal prospect for Team Fiji in the Shooting competition and today, 2 gold medals are at stake in the single and double barrel events.
The Swimming competition will see 6 gold medals being given out today after the finals in the evening. Caroline Pickering, Rachel Ah Koy, Calum Liew and Sean Chow will be in the pool from this morning taking part in the heats. The swimming finals will be held tonight.
Weightlifting is another sport that has medals at stake where 6 gold medals are to be won and our top bet in the women's division is Asenaca Shaw and in the men's division, it's Joe Vueti.
Team Fiji's head of delegation Atma Maharaj said they will try their best to win some medals on the first day of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Fiji soccer team after their good start in the Pacific Games Soccer competition will play their second pool match against the Cook Islands at 5pm today.
The Fiji netball players will also be in action this afternoon when they play the Norfolk Islands in their first pool match at 12pm.
Other sports that Team Fiji will be taking part in today will be baseball where Fiji plays Palau at 11am, beach volleyball both in the men’s and women’s division, cricket where Fiji plays Samoa in their opening match, golf, hockey where Fiji plays Samoa, lawn bowls, squash, table tennis, touch rugby and tennis.
