Census Commissioner Ratu Timoci Bainimarama
The Census Commissioner Ratu Timoci Bainimarama has today assured that the 2007 census will go ahead in September this year.
Bainimarama confirms they just received around $4 million from the Interim Regime and has also received technical assistance from non-governmental organisations such as the United Nations Population Fund.
UNFPA this morning handed 20 laptops, 200 handheld Global Positioning Systems (GPS) with accessories and computer interface devices to the Bureau of Statistics which will be used in the 2007 Census.
GPS is a system being used around the world as part of the latest technology in census data collection and mapping.
The use of GPS is going to help increase data collection efficiency and effectiveness.
