It’s plain and simple, do not litter. $200 is the fine if you are found littering in a public place or throwing rubbish from a vehicle, while a corporate body can be fined $1000 for the same action, and if you are found throwing away dangerous litter or any litter that can hurt people in a public place, you can be fined $2000 while a corporate body can be fined $4000.

These are just some of the penalties in the Litter Promulgation 2008 which came into force last Friday.

Director Environment Epeli Nasome said there is no need to have these implemented if people and companies care about living in a clean environment.
