Life for the villagers of Nasaqalau in Lakeba in Lau will take some time to get back to normal after the damages caused by hurricane Tomas.

Spokesperson, Mikaele Finoki said it is one of the worst ever hurricane to hit them and it has affected them with close to 20 houses been badly damaged.

Finoki added that the village hall which was one of their evacuation centre was also partly damaged when a roof top from another house in the village was blown away by strong winds and landed on the hall.

Those who were using the village hall had to be rushed into the church.

He said the village store was also completely destroyed and one of the difficulties they are facing at the moment is trying to get clean water to be used for drinking.

Finoki said they are relying on rain water at the moment for drinking.
