A Navua man charged with four counts of defilement was today sentenced to 2 years imprisonment by the Navua Court.

The court heard that Roneel Lal defiled the girl several times between December 2007 till March last year during the absence of the victim's mother.

Lal pleaded not guilty to all his charges however he was found guilty.

Lal's lawyer Chaitanya Lakshman in the mitigating factors told the court that he is a first offender and his wife needs him and pleaded to the court that he be spared.

He supports his family and asked the court to consider non custodial sentence .

However, Magistrate Mesake Wakanivonoloa while sentencing him said the sentence must reflect the community standard and safety in the protection of young victim from being exploited.
