Two students have lost their lives from drowning yesterday.

The tragic incident happened around 3.30pm at the Carreras River in Nadi where a 16 and 17-year-old both had accompanied their friends for a picnic.

A post mortem is expected to be conducted soon.

The drowning toll now stands at 67 compared to 38 for the same period last year.

With thousands of people expected to flock to popular picnic spots this morning, police are requesting the public to be cautious and exercise all safety measures to ensure no loss of life.
