It was a dream come true for a sister and brother to receive their certificate in sign language earlier this week.
The sister, Mabel Tikotikoca said that the course was an eye-opener for her as she realized that she was not the only one trying to help the deaf.
Amongst those getting their certificate was a family whose youngest son was deaf and took up the course so that they could communicate freely with him.
Another example of perseverance would be the story of 2 Marist Brothers High School students who had hearing impairment and took up lessons.
The two are students at the Auckland University.
A total of 17 special schools have been set up around the country.
