The Fiji Police Force and the Land Transport Authority in their joint operation will be erecting two major check points in the Southern Division from today.

Assistant Police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirms this is to ensure that the vehicles on the roads are in good condition for the travelling public.

Sokomuri said one checkpoint will be in Sawani, Nausori for people traveling from Naitasiri towards Suva or Nausori and the other will be at Pacific Harbour for people travelling to the West.

According to Sokomuri, this operation is mainly due to sporting activities in the Central and Western Division.

He said police will be inspecting vehicles as they want to ensure people arrive safely and return home safely.

Sokomuri has warned drivers not to drink and drive, as there is a no drop policy for this offence.

He said drivers will get arrested if they are caught drink driving.
