Two people are now homeless after an early morning fire destroyed their five bedroom house in Vatukacevaceva settlement in Rakiraki.

The National Fire Authority says one of the neighbours raised the alarm around 1.55 this morning.

According to NFA there were no fire hydrants available in the area and the fire fighters had to refill fire trucks from a house that was five kilometres from the fire scene.

However the fire fighters were able to control the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

The corrugated iron and concrete house was destroyed in fire and investigation continues to determine the cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, a three bedroom house was also destroyed in a fire this morning at Lagalaga Labasa.

A 21 year old was alone in the house at the time of the incident.

The estimated cost of damages is about $29,000.

Investigations continue.

This is the third fire incident in the country since yesterday.
