The Poverty Eradication Unit has organised a two day campaign in Suva from today to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

Public Service Commission's permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand said that Fiji in its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals on halving global poverty by 2020 has devoted October 20 21 to present, create awareness and promote government pro-poor programmes to alleviate poverty in Fiji.

He said that the objective of the campaign includes providing an opportunity to think of the struggle against extreme poverty that takes place every day, create awareness of the role that everyone plays and promote opportunities available through government pro-poor programs.  
 
The campaign will begin today for the three centres in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa and closes on Thursday in Suva only.

Chand has encouraged government ministries and departments to take part in the campaign for the eradication of poverty in Fiji.

Meanwhile the Poverty Eradication Unit Director Dr Tokasa Leweni said the two day campaign starting at the Civic Auditorium will have government ministries and the NGOs displaying their crafts ranging from screen printing, tie and dye, batik printing, voivoi/ vau /kuta craft and flower arrangement.
