2 children die in separate drowning incidents
Police confirm a 5 year old girl drowned in the Wainimala river at Laselase Village, Naitasiri.
Divisional Crime Officer Eastern, ASP Ramesh Chand has confirmed that the girl went out to bath in the Wainimala river with 10 other children off the same age.
The group discovered the victim missing when they went back to village. A search team was deployed however it was dark and they returned home without finding the body. Her body was discovered yesterday afternoon.
In another incidence an 11 year old student of Ba drowned in the Ba river while swimming with his aunty.
The victim was swept away by strong currents. His aunty tried to revive him when they managed to recover him but was unsuccessful.
The drowning toll is now is 38 compared to 32 for the same period last year.
Police are again calling on parents to exercise precautions and to closely supervise children during this festive season.
