Two Fiji born rugby players have been nominated for the European Player of the Year award.

Flying Fijians number 8 Netani Talei who plays for Edinburgh rugby and Toulouse winger Timoci Matanavou have been shortlisted for the prestigious award.

Born in Lautoka, Matanavou came through the Veiyasana club and made his way into the National Sevens team.

Talei has been a regular Flying Fijians from 2006 who played in the memorable 2007 Rugby World cup quarter-finals against South Africa and also played in last year’s Rugby World cup in New Zealand.

Talei and Matanavou have been short-listed with some of the best in the Rugby World which includes IRB Player of the year and France captain Thierry Dusautoir and Ireland fly-half Ronan O’Gara.
