A woman has lost her life after the vehicle she was travelling in veered off the road in Lautoka yesterday.

The incident occurred around 9pm last night.

It is believed that the deceased’s husband was driving the vehicle when it veered off the road. The husband is in police custody as police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a 17 year old boy died after the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree along the Coastal road in Rotuma on Friday.

Police spokesperson, Corporal Suliano Tevita said the driver was believed to be driving the vehicle in a dangerous manner and a police officer on the island tried to stop the driver, who failed to stop and continued driving on.

It is believed the driver was drunk at the time of the accident.

The driver and another passenger are still admitted in the hospital and are expected to be questioned and charged after they are discharged.

The road death toll now stands at 55 compared to 86 last year.
