A one year old girl has lost her life in a house fire in Korovuto Nadi yesterday afternoon.

According to National Fire Authority’s preliminary investigations the cause of fire seems to be due to unattended cooking.

The deceased’s uncle Mohammed Farukh told Fijivillage that the parents were not around at the time of the incident.

Neighbors who saw smoke coming out of the house rushed inside and managed to save a 4year old boy and 2year old girl.

However, it was too late for the neighbors to save the infant.

Farukh said 36-year-old Ahmed Iqbal Hussein who is the deceased father is in a state of shock and is still coming to terms with the loss of his youngest daughter.

He said Hussein was in the cane fields at the time of the incident and the mother had gone out locking the children inside.

The four and two year olds are currently admitted at the Nadi Hospital with burns on their faces, arms and legs.

Meanwhile, in another fire incident a family of four are now  homeless after their house in Vuci Rd, Nausori was completely destroyed by fire yesterday.

No one was hurt and preliminary investigations indicate a lit candle was the cause of the fire.

The tragic death of a one year old baby girl in Nadi is the ninth property fire death and the fifth death involving children this year.

The number of structural fire incidents so far this year now stands at 59.
