Serious concerns are now being raised on the number of children becoming victims of drowning.

In less than 24 hours, two children under the age of 12 years have lost their lives.

A 1 year and 11 month old boy drowned in Wainikovu River in Nairukuruku, Naitasiri, yesterday afternoon.

Police said an 18 year old man was with the boy earlier in the afternoon and later discovered him missing.

He was found floating about 200 metres away from their home.

In another case, a 12 year old girl drowned in a pool at a resort in Nadi yesterday afternoon and police are now trying to find out where was the girl’s parents and if she was being supervised.

A 15 month old baby had also drowned in a pool in the Yasawas last week.

Police are urging parents to seriously supervise their children.

The drowning death toll now stands at 41.
