The events of May 14 and September 25th of 1987 were fateful days in the history of Fiji.

These were the words of Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama during his address to the 62nd United Nations general Assembly this morning.

Commodore Bainimarama for the first time revealed to the international community reasons for the military take over on December 5th last year.

In defense to the military take over, Bainimarama said that by the time the military intervened Fiji's overall governance situation had regressed to catastrophic level.

However, former Prime Minister and 1987 coup leader Sitiveni Rabuka said that Bainimarama's address to the UN General assembly was his own assessment of the situation and there he had nothing to say.
