19,649 people are still staying at 619 evacuation centres around the country after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

National Disaster Management Office Director Akapusi Tuifagalele also revealed that 25 schools are still closed.

21 schools are still being used as evacuation centres while four schools are severely damaged.

109 schools reopened for classes on Monday.

Damage assessment:

The total damage bill for our roads after Cyclone Winston is $135 million.

Damage cost for agriculture stands at $120 million, sugar sector damage stands at $80 million while the total damage bill for education is $50 million.

Rations:

The National Disaster Management Office is calling on all advisory councillors not to go directly to the houses to deliver food rations.

Director Akapusi Tuifagalele said the advisory councillors should work with community leaders and turaga ni koro to find out the areas affected before distributing rations.

This follows claims in certain areas in Ra that the advisory councillors were not distributing rations fairly.

Tuifagalele is also advising the public that emergency operations officials are coming to their areas in peace.

He said people should not attack the officials or try to do anything that would disrupt their services.

He assures people that those who need help will be assisted.

Tuifagalele said they are still getting some calls from people who need assistance.

He said the teams are taking ration packs to these affected areas.

Some areas in Tavua and Ba now require additional rations.

Tuifagalele said these people were given two weeks-worth of rations, and the officials are getting ready to deliver another round of rations.

Death toll:

The death toll still stands at 43.

A Japanese national who has been missing at sea since Cyclone Winston, has been found.

Tuifagalele said the Japanese national had taken shelter on an island in Lau.
