The National Fire Authority rescued 175 people in the Northern Division during the height of Hurricane Tomas.
Divisional Fire Officer Northern, John Pillay said people were really scared and needed their assistance.
He also said they rescued elderly woman and a pregnant lady who were safely taken to the hospital.
Pillay added that more than 90 people including children were rescued from Labasa, 85 were rescued from Savusavu while 18 patients were rescued from Taveuni hospital after part of the hospital roof was blown away.
They are still trying to get in touch with the Taveuni station.
