15 weightlifters from Fiji will be competing in the Oceania Weightlifting Championship next month at the Vodafone Arena which is a qualification event for the Rio Olympics.
Manueli Tulo is top favorite for the 56kg event and is tipped to qualify for the Rio Games.
In the womens competition, Apolonia Vaivai is also tipped to do well in the 69kg event.
Oceania Weightlifting Federation’s Paul Coffa said 16-year-old Eileen Cikamatana from Levuka will also be one of the weight-lifters to watch in the Oceania meet as the youngster has been performing well.
Meanwhile, National weightlifting coach, Jo Vueti said most of Fiji’s weight-lifters are currently training in Levuka in a shed as their gym sustained major damage during Tropical Cyclone Winston.
He said they are still focused and preparations are on track.
The Australian Weightlifting Federation has also today donated $2,500 to Weightlifting Fiji.
