15 Parties Invited To Political Forum
The political parties include Fiji Labour Party, National Federation Party, the SDL Party, Social Liberal Multi Cultural Party, Justice and Freedom Party, Nationalist Vanua Tako Lavo Party, Party of the truth, National Democratic Party, Party of National Unity, National Alliance Party, Fiji Peoples Party, Conservative Alliance/Matanitu Vanua Party, the SVT Party, Coalition of Independent National Party and United Peoples Party.
In a letter to the party leaders, Commodore Bainimarama said the interim government and the state are committed to conducting a general election as soon as practically possible. He said it is imperative that they move forward to facilitate this without further, undue delay.
Bainimarama is also flexible on the agenda of this proposed meeting on Monday.
Meanwhile, the SDL party, National Federation Party, Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua, National Alliance Party, the Party of National Unity, United Peoples Party and the Fiji Peoples Party have so far confirmed their attendance at the forum on Monday.
However, Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry said he cannot make decisions on his own and the FLP Committee will decide tomorrow whether or not they will accept the invitation.
Meanwhile, the Ecumenical Center for Research Education and Advocay Director Chantell Khan said the leaders must realize that it will not be easy but stressed that these are exciting developments for Fiji.
The Fiji Council of Social Services has also welcomed the move and President, Nemani Buresova said it’s now Commodore Bainimarama's responsibility to uphold his word in getting all political leaders to discuss Fiji's future.
The Citizen's Constitutional Forum has welcomed the move by political parties and Bainimarama to enter into dialogue for a way forward for Fiji.
Executive Director, Rev Akuila Yabaki said the meeting, hopefully the first of many, should be welcomed as this will be beneficial to the whole country.
