Around 140 people, who have lost their homes and all their belongings, are still taking refuge at two evacuation centers in Taveuni.

DISMAC confirmed that 80 people are taking shelter at the Holy Cross primary school and 60 people are at the Wainikeli Primary school on Taveuni.

According to DISMAC, these families have nowhere to go at this stage and will continue to be assisted until temporary shelter is built for them to move into.

DISMAC also confirmed that so far they have confirmation of 320 homes being badly damaged in the Eastern division mostly in the Lau group.

And as on the ground assessments continues, DISMAC also confirmed that 67 schools in the Lau and Lomaiviti group have sustained damages to classrooms and other facilities.

DISMAC said all crops on Vanuabalavu, Kanacea, Mago and Cicia have been destroyed namely casava, vudi, dalo, banana, bele, uvi and wi and people on these islands desperately need food and water supplies over the next few weeks.
