Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan has named 14 players for the Dubai 7s with the final 12 players to be confirmed before the first pool game against Canada.

Forcing their way back into the national sevens side are Nadroga skipper and former Fiji 7s captain Nemani Nagusa, Suva half back Emosi Mulevoro and lanky forward Viliame Mata.

Ryan has also named two new players including Tabadamu’s playmaker Emori Waqa and Yamacia’a prop Sevuloni Mocenacagi.

He says he has confidence in the local players although New Zealand and South Africa have roped in their star 15s players to boost their teams for the Olympics.

Captain Osea Kolinisau says he is happy that he is in the team again and they will be targeting to win the Dubai 7s.

Nemani Nagusa who makes his comeback after a lapse of two years says he has done the hard yards in training.

One of the newcomers Emori Waqa, the younger brother of former Vodafone Fiji 7s team player Sitiveni Waqa, says the intensity during the 7s training was difficult but he kept pushing himself aiming for a spot in the team.

The 25-year-old says he prides himself in how fast he is and he’s defensive play.

The other debutant Sevuloni Mocenacagi says he’s being in the squad for a while now and he made sure that Ben Ryan noticed him during training and selected for the new series.

25-year-old Mocenacagi says this will be his first time to play overseas and he is raring to get onto the field.

The names of the final 12 players will be submitted to World Rugby by 9am on the morning of the Dubai 7s on the 4th of next month.

Fiji will meet Canada at 6pm on the 4th of next month, they will then take on Japan at 9pm on the 4th of next month before facing Argentina at 3.28am on the 5th of next month.

South Africa is the defending champion of the Dubai 7s.
