The National Fire Authority has recorded a total of 13 fires in the month of December.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer, Qio-nilau Moceitai said out of these 13 fires, 12 were home fires while one was a commercial one in Nabua.

He said 8 of the houses that caught fire were after the 26th December, which showed that all were vacant during the time of the incident. He said all the houses were completely destroyed.

Moceitai said that the major reason for all these 13 fires were kids either playing with kerosene lantern or matches, unattended cooking, prayer diya or an electrical fault.

He is calling on people to get an electrician to check electrical wiring at their homes if they have not done it for some years now, and is urging parents to keep matches and lanterns away from children's reach.
