With a look of excitement in her eyes, 12 year old Rachel Kumar knows that today could be the biggest day in her life as she awaits an operation which will make her hear properly for the first time.
Rachel was born without ears and thanks to the Carabez Alliance Foundation, she will have a Bone-Anchored hearing devise or Baha implanted today at the Bailey Clinic in Suva.
Rachel’s teary eyed mother Shamina Prasad said a tough long journey in her daughter’s life will come to an end as she will be able to do things others take for granted such as watching television and listening to music.
She said the implant will also ensure her daughter will be able to get proper education.
Bronwyen Carabez, founder of the Carabez Foundation said her daughter was also born with a hearing problem and knows the pains of a mother to see her child face difficulties because of her hearing problem.
Carabez Foundation has donated the $35,000 Bone-Anchored hearing devise and Rachel’s operation will also be free.
