1200 students in need of assistance
Chief Executive Officer Chandra Shekhar said a total of 244 students are in need of stationary while 1054 students urgently need food assistance in schools, totaling the student number to 1298.
He said schools that suffered damage to its stationary and text books would need to have them re-supplied so that the students can resume their studies and for the teachers to appropriately prepare their "Lessons" for the children.
He said SC Fiji will provide stationary and text books on a needs basis to the affected schools.
He said more than $100,000 will be alone spent on these students in providing them with 10 weeks lunch and stationary.
Shekhar said that schools in localities that suffered extensive damage to crops and food supply should be provided assistance such that hot meals are served to the students at lunch time.
According to Shekhar this program is to continue for 10 weeks which will give ample time for family gardens to become productive again and parents being able to manage the feeding needs of the family.
